Turned-Over: UConn Forces 6 INTs To Roll Past USF

Tampa, Fla. (AP) — UConn’s defense overwhelmed South Florida on Saturday, forcing six interceptions and turning repeated takeaways into points in a 48–7 victory at Raymond James Stadium.

The Huskies took control early, scoring off short fields and building a 21–7 halftime lead before pulling away decisively in the second half. UConn finished with seven total takeaways and limited the Bulls to one touchdown while consistently winning the field-position battle.

Running back Cam Edwards led the offense with a career performance, rushing 19 times for 85 yards and four touchdowns. He also added 54 receiving yards, repeatedly converting in goal-to-go situations as UConn capitalized on defensive stops. Edwards accounted for 24 points, matching South Florida’s total scoring output through its first two games.

South Florida quarterback Byrum Brown struggled against a disciplined Huskies secondary, throwing six interceptions as UConn defenders jumped routes and closed throwing lanes. The Bulls were unable to sustain drives and committed multiple turnovers deep in their own territory.

UConn complemented its ground attack with timely downfield plays. Juice Vereen finished with five receptions for 90 yards and two touchdowns, providing balance to an offense that scored on four of its first six possessions.

UConn entered the game favored by more than a touchdown and exceeded expectations, rotating reserves late in the fourth quarter as the outcome was decided.

The Huskies improved to 1–1, buoyed by a dominant defensive showing and a positive point differential early in the season. South Florida fell to 0–2 and has been outscored 100–24 through its first two games.

UConn returns home next week seeking to build momentum, while South Florida looks to regroup offensively and cut down on turnovers ahead of its next matchup.
